Blue and gold are regular U.S. Navy shades. The patch has four stars on it – a single each with the three astronauts who flew the mission and one particular for Clifton Williams, the initial LMP on Conrad's crew who was killed in 1967 and would have flown the mission. The star was placed there within the recommendation of his alternative, Bean.[1
